DCET (Diploma Common Entrance Test) is a state-level exam conducted by KEA for diploma holders seeking lateral entry (direct 2nd year) into B.E./B.Tech programmes in Karnataka. All diploma engineering students — CS, ME, CE, EE, EC — who want to pursue a degree should take it.

Karnataka diploma holders who are in their final year or have completed their diploma in engineering are eligible. Only Karnataka diploma holders qualify for government seats. Students from other states can apply for management quota in private colleges.

There is no official limit on DCET attempts. You can appear for the exam multiple times until you secure admission.

No. DCET has no negative marking. You receive +1 for each correct answer and 0 for incorrect or unanswered questions. So attempt every single question.

Five subjects, 20 marks each: Engineering Mathematics, Statistics & Analytics, IT Skills, FEEE (Fundamentals of Electrical & Electronics Engineering), and PMS (Project Management Skills). Total: 100 marks.

Lateral entry means direct admission into the 2nd year (3rd semester) of a B.E./B.Tech programme. Diploma holders skip the 1st year and complete their degree in 3 years instead of 4.
